The day has come that our group began working on our AICE portfolio project. Our group consisting of Antonio, Nick, and Myself; mutually chose to pick a film opening. There was a near resounding choice to pick a horror film opening. I obviously was ecstatic about this, as I will be able to reflect what I learned from a previous blog posting which I will link. The first true idea that cam to my head was a serial killer/slasher type horror film. It would include an essential person being awaken from a dimmed lightbulb in a random room, to then look for their phone frantically. Then to realize a radio playing randomly, this builds a lead up for the slasher to come in and murder him. Then to a fade away, and usage of shadows and symbolism yet to be decided to show the murder. When I thought of music that could be used into this scene, the song "Run Rabbit Run" by Flangan and Allen immediately came to mind. This is mostly due to its use in many horror films (or a film trying to create an eerie feel) to date such as Get out and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
Here we see the music in this film opening is immense. It really aids in shocking the audience and developing forms of symbolism by telling the character to "run". Besides the shock factor the editing as well with the music to allow it to fade into the main sound card as the character is abducted and placed into the car just shows great usage of an editing technique we hope to use. However in our case, we hope to use the similar method of the song playing faintly in the background and get gradually more in focus as the character is either dead or murdered. However this all depends if Cleopatra records will allow us to use the rights to their song, which I wholeheartedly will write an email to them soon. However if we aren't given rights to the song, I still will gladly use that sound editing technique with another score.
Here was the pre planning, premise for the original idea to the movie intro. Obviously there will be some changes and editing to the main ideas of it, but this was just the foundation that our film intro will hope to move on from.
As well, we showed discussion by bringing up possible ideas like a disease film that Nico wanted to film in Pittsburgh while he was on vacation. We had some discussion, but we realized it wasn't the best idea as it would limit the amount of raw footage as well as our creative ability to aid him during his process of filming. But during the discussion, plot and location scouting was discussed.
However I do believe that we will prevail and produce the best possible horror film opening possible as we continue our research more on the modern and possibly more classic film introductions in the genre itself.
